I had read the previous book in this series, Take to the Limit, and because of that I can say that there were parts of Close to the Edge that made sense to me but only because I had read the previous book. There would need to be more detailed explanations of backgrounds and previous subplots in order for this book to be able to stand on its own.3/5.
